| Local Projects - Sections & Programs
The Secondary Roads Section administers the various road programs for counties and municipalities of population less than 5000. The Section acts as a liaison between the local county or municipality and the Federal Highway Administration. It distributes federal and state funding to the local agencies for their roadway and bridge projects. It then monitors these projects to ensure that design standards are met and proper procedures are followed. (LPA Guidelines Manual) Programs administered by the Secondary Roads Section are: (Clicking on some of these links will take you outside the NDOR site - use your "Back " button to return) The State Recreation Road Fund is administered by NDOR with the approval of the Governor for construction and maintenance of dustless-surface roads which are designated as State Recreation Roads. These roads, designated by the Game and Parks Commission, give direct and immediate access to, or are located within state parks, state recreation areas, or other recreational or historical areas. The Urban Section administers the road and bridge program funding to the first class cities (over 5000 in population) in the state. This includes the three metropolitan planning organizations (MPO's) for the Omaha, Lincoln, and Sioux City urbanized ares. The Section acts in an oversight role on behalf of the Federal Highway Administration for local federally funded projects.
