Design Standards

Updates design policy, procedures and standards.

Expressways and Major Arterials Group A & Group B

  • The Expressways and Major Arterials Groups A & B are responsible for preparing and reviewing plans, specifications, and estimates for projects for expressways and major arterials.

Interstate

  • The Interstate Section is responsible for preparing and reviewing plans, specifications, and estimates for projects on the interstate system.

Urban, Resurfacing, & Lighting

  • The Urban and Resurfacing area is responsible for preparing and reviewing plans, specifications, and estimates for urban, safety, resurfacing, and lighting projects in the state highway system.

Roadway Hydraulics

  • Provide training and support for Roadway Design staff on hydraulics related to projects.
  • Provide hydraulics support to districts, other divisions and NDOR legal staff on hydraulics related issues.
  • Represent Roadway Design division in meetings with other agencies on matters related to hydraulics.
  • Review permit applications and drainage studies from private developers and other governmental entities for impacts to state drainage facilities.

Environmental Liaison

  • Coordinate activities between Environmental Permit section of Planning and Project Development Division and Roadway Design.
  • Act as chair for the bi-monthly environmental review meetings.
  • Provide representation for Roadway Design division in meetings with environmental resource agencies.
  • Provide guidance and input for incorporating Best Management Practicse and mitigation strategies into Roadway Design projects.

Plan Development

Plan Development is responsible for:

  • Development of preliminary and final design plans.
  • Coordination of all photogrammetric, land surveying & geodetic activities.
  • Authorizing and coordinating preliminary, right-of-way, hydraulic and any additional surveys.
  • Perform land survey activities as required.
  • Performs Hydrologic/Hydraulic studies.

Plan Review

Reviews plans prior to submittal to Plans and Specifications.

Office Services

  • Directly responsible to the Roadway Design Engineer.
  • Responsible for incoming and outgoing correspondence.
  • Directing inquiries to appropriate area(s).
  • Responsible for project files and plans in the Roadway Design vault.
  • Ordering and dispensing of supplies for the division and processing division payroll.
